Blue Carbon Opportunities for Early Career Researchers – EGU Town Hall Highlights
On 30th April, we were delighted to host a vibrant town hall meeting at the EGU Annual General Assembly in Vienna, focusing on Blue Carbon Opportunities for Early Career Researchers (ECRs). The session, expertly convened and moderated by Bill Austin (WP5 lead), brought together passionate voices from across the blue carbon community.
C-BLUES members Sung Ching Lee (PI MPI) and Chris Lindemann (science coordinator) shared their personal journeys and practical advice on building a career in the dynamic field of blue carbon. Their insights highlighted the vital role of coastal vegetated ecosystems-such as salt marshes, mangroves, and seagrass meadows-in supporting biodiversity, protecting coastlines, and mitigating climate change.
The discussion emphasized the urgent need for research and innovation as these habitats face increasing pressures from climate change and human activities. Early career researchers are at the forefront of this effort, shaping the future of blue carbon science and policy.
A big thank you to everyone who joined us and contributed to the conversation! If you’re interested in getting involved or learning more about blue carbon research opportunities, please reach out at bluecarbon@st-andrews.ac.uk.
